Artist Statement

Shin Chung is a Seoul-based artist whose work explores not what images represent, but how they are perceived. Drawing inspiration from film, social media, popular culture, and everyday life, Chung collects visual fragments and reinterprets them through geometric forms, custom-mixed colors, and compositions.

Chung translates familiar subjects from a personal perspective. Faces and identities are often deconstructed and reshaped, shifting attention away from recognition and toward perception itself. By balancing familiarity and ambiguity, the work invites viewers to bring their own memories and experiences into the image.

Through this process, Chung reflects on the ways images shape memory, desire, and cultural identity in an age of endless visual consumption, allowing viewers to discover their own narratives within each work.
